Suggest Some Roots Rock...

Sign in to disble this ad
I just started listening to Rick Danko from The Band. I'm really impressed and inspired. Makes me wanna' give singing & playing a try. Heck... I might even start using a pick

I've never really gotten too deep into roots rock. Can you guys offer me some listening suggestions? I'm guessing that Rick Danko is one of a kind, but if there are any other bassists out there like him, I'd love to know about them.

Thanks,
Joe

Not too sure what your definition of "Roots Rock" is. Mine would be those bands that came out of the mid-60s Blues Boom & started heavying it up.

F'rinstance...

The Stones, Cream, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Ten Years After, Taste & even the first Led Zeppelin album (although that one may be the Next Level).

... or have I completely misread you?

I liked roots rock and I never even knew it!

Ahhh... So it's basically rocked-up country. Bit of a Curate's Egg for me tbh. Disregard previous post in this context.

cool, very nice. thanks for the link. sorry that "roots rock" threw ya. i should have described it a little different. i got that from visiting wiki for The Band.

i'm looking for folk/rock bands from the last 60's/early 70's that jam. i can't believe the bassist for The Band. pretty amazing stuff!

I was fortunate enough to see him "from me to you" when him and Levon came as the Band in the early 90's to Sculpture Park, if you know where that is. One of the only times I've been in the front row at a concert.
