Suggestions for Jazz Orchestra recordings

I'm finding a great love for certain arranger/composers. The best for me is Maria Schneider. Her albums are all great but the first, Evanescence, and the last, Sky Blue, are wonderful.

I've tried to find others like this. The closest ones have been Gil Evans' Svengali; Vanguard Jazz Orchestra (formerly Thad Jones-Mel Lewis).

I like the ensemble playing instead of excessive solos. Dynamics and moods are important. I like Third Stream as well but not too much has been done lately in that direction.

So, lovers of this music, I look forward to your recommendations.

Two composers immediately come to mind, based on your description:

Carla Bley -- almost anything she's done

Mike Gibbs -- check out The Only Chrome Waterfall Orchestra
