It's something fresh! Your compositions have that quality about them, aside from generally just being great.
Other than that I agree with bkbirge in that I would love to hear this with a real drummer. I would also like to hear more of the other instruments in the song. The piano and strings definitely had prominent roles in the song but I feel like they could do more somehow. And horns! I would LOVE to hear some horns on this track. I feel like this should be some sort of sweeping, epic story of a song similar to Pat Metheny's The Way Up. It just fits that role so well.
I think this is like the third time I've said it but I really want an album/EP from you! You're probably the most talented bassist/composer I've heard to have not released one yet, lol. |
Thanks dude, I guess the reason why I haven't released an Album/EP is because for the time being, this sort of sequenced stuff (IE, stuff without a real drummer) is all I have to work with. I'm moving up to New York next year, so hopefully I'll have the players I need to play this stuff (hopefully live...how cool would that be?) and get it recorded. Until then, though, it's bedroom tinkering.
This is not the first time my stuff has been likened to Metheny's compositions, especially the Way Up. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about that, since I get such a cheese vibe from a lot of what he does, but I do like the Way Up, so there's that. I'll take it as a compliment, though!
Anyway, thanks for the kind words.
