This one came out today and having just picked it up I can say it delivers the goods! The band has really taken it to the next level with this one.
If you know the Sword you know what to expect - epic riffmongery. While their last albums were a bit raw, the production and polish has been stepped up (in a good way) and the bass sounds great too! |

It's like (my favorite band for a while) The Sword got some lipstick and made a record. It'd probably be a good album if it weren't The Sword, but the fact that it's The Sword and the album is what it is... I'm bummed. Upon first listen I like three songs, I could do without the rest, and the three that I like are just good... Not great... Good. Understand that I love the last two Sword albums... Love them and still listen to them once a week or so... I don't really care if I hear this one again and it bums me out. FWIW, Snakes for the Devine is still my favorite album of 2010. |

I think it'll have some haters because it's an evolution in the sound, more balanced and polished, less raw.

"Music news website MetalInsider.net mentioned the album on its Twitter profile, saying 'Listening to some new Sword album. Mind blown. Sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd crashed into C.O.C. instead of a mountain.'"
Personally I love it, it sounds like The Sword, in space!

'Lawless Lands' has a definite ZZ Top influence in it and 'Night City' channels mid-70's Think Lizzy for sure. I think both those songs are big departure's from the band's usual sound but also work really well. You have to stretch out sometime and I'm glad they did. |

I got bored of Gods of the Earth fairly quickly, so the concept for this album intrigued me since it sounded like they were stepping up everything from their songwriting to the production. Unfortunately, it's pretty much Gods of the Earth Part 2. A boring release from an increasingly dull band. |

Although I have a hard time getting all the way through it because I keep listening to track #4(not sure of the name... Chromancer Part I, maybe.) over and over again. I don't see it getting the rotation that Baroness has had, but it's a solid album, nontheless.
