I think his tone is pretty bleh, IMO, not enough clarity to let what he is playing actually shine through

Oh my. It sounds absolutely terrible, much like a parody shred video actually.
Tone, notes, timing, groove, costumes, everything is wrong in this video.
The grin on the string players' faces when he soloes are priceless though.

This would work with a better bassist that has more melodic concept than this guy does. He's simply not strong enough of a player to justify being up there.

Yngwie Malmsteen has played with an orchestra before and actually pulled it off very well, so the idea of combining the symphony with a guest rock musician can work if the right personnel are involved.

Really? that was pretty horrid and in my opinion most probably deminishes the creditablity that he is a "good" bass player, as a person who has no idea who he is that just seemed like a guy just messing around for the sake of it.
