Technical Rush?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking to build up my chops a bit with some quick melodic lines and figured who better than Rush to get down with.

Can anybody throw me a list of the most technical Rush stuff? Thinking YYZ, and other "shred" tunes they have..

Analog Kid
Digital Man
Malignant Narcissism
Marathon
Force Ten

Those are just some off the top of my head...most of their songs have good energetic bass lines.

La Villa Stangiato & Cinderella Man are great tunes from the prog era.

Also, pretty much anything from the Power Windows/Hold Your Fire era will give you a nice challenge. Those albums had the poppiest tunes Rush has ever turned out, which may or may not be a good thing to you, but Geddy was really bouncing all over the map with his basslines in that era. I think it is was his best period as a bassist, even if it wasn't necessarily the best period for the band as a whole in the view of most Rush fans.

I would recommend Natural Science and Hemispheres from their classic era... both feature busy, challenging, and fun basslines.
