The slapping in the first song gets in the way of the song, sounds like you are doing just because you can instead of when it is needed.

I've never been a fan of the rattling/gritty tone thing, but its good playing. I'm usually pretty open minded to new music but I just don't really get it. Oh well, I bet you guys have fun with it Keep rockin' (or whatever it is you call what you do)
