Question Tell me what you think of my playing in this...

I recently played bass on my drummer's brother's song "The Owl Of Discontent"

Not exactly my musical preference but it was fun doing something new.

He asked for a lot of low B, and I decided to take a simple approach towards it. Tell me what you think.

sounds great I liked the intro ,I'm just not a fan of "black metal vocals" .

Bass playing sounds good to me. Clear articulate tone, especially for how heavy it is. Sounds like it could be on the radio as easy as anything else these days...if the horrible gremlin-like vocals where replaced. I could definitely listen to this if you had a strong singer. Iron Maiden style metal seems to have come full circle these days. Fine by me.

The production on the one was outstanding. Whoever engineered/mixed that did a bang up job. Bass was solid. Nice.

I love it!

Very Cradle of Filth.
Your tone reminds me somewhat of Varg Vikernes', which is in my eyes a compliment, Burzum were amazing!!

But don't stab someone to death then become a Nazi like he did

It's not bad. I would have enjoyed a more articulate (midrange) tone... so I could hear if you were matching up with the guitars on the fast parts. I can hear the low B you speak of, but not much else. Did you play fingerstyle?

The drums are kind of lousy in the mix. Cymbals are way too loud, the rest of the drums sound like they are far back. I'd have lowered the cymbals quite a bit and pushed the snare/kick further up front.

Yeah I played with my fingers on this, I don't normally use a pick although I did experiment with using one but ended up not.

Bass was just DI to the board, no special EQ.

Thank you for the comments, I will inform james of the troll-like vocals
