Terry Reid.... why isn't he a household name?

Sign in to disble this ad
Any Fans out there?

He blew off Jimmy Page for Led Zep...
He blew off Richie Blackmore for Deep Purple...
He had minimal commercial success since the mid 60s...
The Black Crowes seem to have ripped off everything he's done...
Rob Zombie puts Terry's songs in his movies...

I've got 3 releases so far "River", "Seed Of A Memory" and "Rogue Wave".
I'm waiting on a 4th, "Super Lungs"... it's the complete studio recordings from 66 to 69.

I can't stop listening to this guy!

Thanks for the heads-up Major, he now has a new fan.

Now I just need some cash to get a few albums.

Wow! Finally some Terry Reid loving! I've plugged him many times here, and never got feedbacks from people.

He has been one of my favorite singer/songwriter since I first heard of him in The Devils' Rejects. So far, I have Seed of Memory and Rogue Wave, and both are amazing, especially Seed of Memory, which might just be my favorite album of all time.

It amazes me how such an incredible talent went unnoticed, I mean, the guy could have played in Led Zep, and used to hang with the Rolling Stones and Deep Purple...

Anyway, I can't stress how great this man was, probably the best hidden kept secret in music. I think everyone should have Seed of Memory in their collection. Now i'm not kidding, everyone that I know that has heard him, from my mother to my metalhead friends have fell in love with his music.

What a weird looking cigarette being smoked by the drummer in the first video.

Seems pretty cool, and the Black Crows rip him off for sure.

I got my first Terry Reid album around the time I got Jeff Beck's Truth, about '68. They were both produced by Mickie Most. When we were kids we thought Terry was going to be huge! 'The River' had some great stuff on it, very loose feel and one of the first albums I noticed David Lindley on....good times, good times.
Thanks for the flashback James!

no problem.... Terry's stuff is amazing, yet up until recently I'd no clue he existed. He falls right into line with a lot of stuff I do listen to, I cannot believe I didn't know of him years ago.

It's cool to find someone appreciating what this guy has done!
I'm a big rob zombie fan, musicaly, and film-wise, and that's how I got to hear of the guy too, but he truly is something worth listening to!

Great clip from the Glastonbury 1971. That drummer is Alan White and there's also David Lindley. The bassist is Lee Miles who played on his all recordings throughout the seventies.

I have all his studio albums and a live one called "Silver White Light" recorded at Isle Of Wight festival 1970. Mike Giles of King Crimson is the drummer.

Never thought about the Black Crowes connection before but you're right about it! They do sound like Reid's more rocky stuff.

My fav album is "River" followed by "Rogue Waves". The latter's cd version on BGO records is mastered too fast, it plays a semitone higher than the vinyl.

Cheap Trick does a great cover of Reid's "Speak Now Or Forever Hold Your Peace" on their first album and it's intro is a showcase for Tom Petersson.
