These Arms Are Snakes

I've only heard it a few times but I thought I would inform everyone about this song with, what I believe, is a really interesting bassline and tone/effect. I think it really makes the song. If you are into classic, funk, r&b, basically everything beside the ridiculous amounts of new "branches" of rock, this may not be for you. However I still think it's worth checking out.
So give it a listen...

Subtle Body by These Arms Are Snakes

If you dont want to download it, it's on their myspace...

Brian Cook is a favorite of mine between Botch, These Arms Are Snakes, Mouth of the Architect, and now Russian Circles. On Subtle Body, it's almost all keyboards, which he also plays in TAAS.

so i asked TAAS on their myspace and they actually responded...

"korg microkorg keyboard running through an ibanez tube screamer for parts A and B. bass guitar running with either a clean signal, an ibanez tube screamer, an electroharmonix big muff, or a combination of the latter two for the other parts of the song. the microkorg has a custom designed setting on it.
hope that helps
brian"

just in case anyone was as interested as i

Brian Cook is also really good about responding to questions, as he has responded to my inquiries before. Ifyou wanna know his TAAS signal chain, it's:

Gibson Grabber and Korg Microsynth--> Morley A/B box-->Digitech Whammy-->Ibanez Tubescreamer-->EHX Big Muff-->Akai Headrush-->2 Ampeg SVT-3's into 2 Ampeg 8x10's.

Ridiculous tone. I was listening to Easter today and his tone just keeps getting better. This song in particular caught my ear.

Edit: Interesting that he uses a Microkorg... I have an MS2000 (which is practically a full-sized Microkorg). Might wanna try a similar setup to see what it sounds like.

i actually bought a microkorg a few years ago after seeing them play, thinking i could use it to do some different stuff in my band...
yeah, i play bass, not keys. that got sold.
great band, regardless, and a great group of guys to do shots with after the show.

I remember hearing about these guys when I was living out in Seattle. I just moved here to DC last year and a few months ago I saw TAAS downtown. Good show!

I just listened to Easter. I love the bass sounds on that album. I know it's a keyboard on "Subtle Body" but I have gotten a similar sound with my tech 21 XXL with the level at about 10:00, the warp on about 4:00 and the drive at about 7:00(barley on) into a wah pedal then into a reverse delay with a little bit of your dry signal(level almost cranked). It's not exactly the same but pretty close.

I'll second that. I just got into them. I'd heard of them before (from this post, in fact) and just never gave the band a good listen.

I have no idea why it took so long, but regardless these guys are wickedtacular!

Botch was the tops, but the offshoots have all been pretty good.
