Things that you never heard in songs upon first few listens.

I've been really digging the song "Fischer's Gambit" by Gordian Knot lately. I decided to listen to it in headphones as opposed to a stereo, and I just noticed that the piano has a real slight delay. What are some things that you guys never noticed upon first listen?

on the first go around, I usually dont hear some effects or small fills put in, but i agree with you that when you put on headphones and give a song/album a good listen, you discover alot more. some bands have alot more in their music than you originally think.

when i find crazy cool stuff like effects or small fills or backround noise, i appreciate the music more.

widdily wah!

There's a LOT of stuff like that in smashing pumpkins music. Police cars passing the studio, hidden speach, backwards masking, things of that nature.

How funky and "Rock" John Paul Jones was in the end of "Stairway to Heaven"

Props Petary, I love Gordian Knot...you should check out Sean Malone's work on Cynic's record.

One thing I noticed was this dissonant piano jangley thing in the beginning of Husker Du's "Pink Turns to Blue."

Word. That and the 60+ guitar tracks on songs like "Soma."

As far as I know it's not 60 tracks, but it's quite a bunch, like 10 or so. Plus they're all ebowed acoustic guitars. There use to be a whole site dedicaded to what those secret sounds were, like that Doom sound effect in "Where Boys Fear To Tread." Yeah yeah I know. NERD!

I know on the first Mars Volta album, I was listening to a song and thought to myself that it should have a backwards guitar part... and 2 seconds later I heard one.

Word. Gordian Knot is purely awesome. I reccomend Focus by Cynic as well. Awesome album, I wish they had stuck around to make more.

I pick up new stuff all the time when I listen to Protest The Hero. Incredible band.

During the bridge in Paul McCartney's "Live and Let Die" there is a really odd squeaking sound - like a rusty door being opened or something. the bridge:
What does it matter to ya
When you got a job to do
You gotta do it well (eeee-aahhhh)
You gotta give the other fellow hell...
i remember that song when it came out and only noticed that sound within the last six months.

Whenever I listen to the first 2 Garbage albums, I can always find something I never heard before. The awesome amount of layers they whacked on there just amazes me.

At the very start of Radiohead's - 2+2=5 you can hear someone say "thats a good way to start a song Johnny". Has to be quite loud though.
I never noticed it till my friend point it out.
