Hey all, I recorded my band in the practice room the other day, it's pretty lo-fi. I just put one mic in the corner into the only working track on an old 4-track. Check it out at www.myspace.com/windsofgenocide
Cheers, Dan

A couple constructive points:
-LOVE the recordings. I did a Sweedish/Japanese style crust band back in the early 00's (I've been in 4 bands that fall under the 'crust' label though) and we also used a crappy tape player+mic-in-the-middle-of-the-room to record everything.
-To be a lame-o... aesthetically it seems to lack something. Sweedish D-beat crust is a VERY visual stlye of punk. You guys(and gal) seem WAAAAY clean cut. My band was full of the whole "tight black pants+patches, never shower, no shirt sleves, tattoos, spikey-hair-because-it's-just-that-damn-dirty, patchouli musked, 3-belts-or-no-belts" motiff. Not to say being clean is bad (sike, yea it is) but dirty it up a bit more!
-Your logo/album-art needs more black and white collage work of war atrocities/nuclear imagery/storm troopers/guns/skulls
-Bass sounds awesome! It's rare to see/hear a jazz in a crust band. It works. I used a beat up P bass and a russian Muff.
-Needs a song in sweedish
All in all though... STOAKED to hear someone on TB that's into crust!
Keep it up!

| | | | Hey Pete, what happened at the Reelapse forums?
Hey Din of Win, thanks for the points. The drummer and I often say that we feel really out of place at gigs cos he's doing a PHD course and I work full time with no tattoos or anything so I know what you mean about being too clean. I'm sure the basstone changed when I put it on myspace, on the cd's it doesn't seem that distorted. I used to get mocked for using my fender jazz in these kindof bands but I think it works fine. |

I'd never razz a guy for looking how they want especially if you're working class and rocking a 40hr work week. The only people who would actually call you out for it are the ones who rub ashtrays on their pants and buy spray on dirt.
Songs sound good man. Keep doing what you do.

The "situation" just spiraled downward from there into the darkest depths of both comedy and tragedy.

| | | | Heh, oh dear. I kindof fancy going to check it out but I probably wont.
Stanley Design, do people actually buy spray on dirt or are you taking the p***? I remember playing in the punk scene in Glasgow when I was 16 and thinking it was wierd that people were cutting their clothes to look ripped. It's almost the fashion now to have designer rips. Acceptable rebellion. |

At least your jazz is not a brand new Rickenbacker... I can't name all the crust punk bands I've seen with $3,000 + bass and guitar rigs. I tend to always rock a jazz in my Hardcore Punk band (I have a pretty pricey rig, but, I shower and work a good paying job) |

Jazzes are great with crust, in my opinion. I, personally, usually just rocked what i had, which at the time was a Harmony P bass... i had a cheap rig (2x15 and a Sunn Colliseum head and russian muff), i didn't shower, and didn't have a job (hitch-hiked around and dumpstered crap, later selling stuff on ebay when that was invented).
uuuup theeeee puuuuuunks

| | | | Heh, I never considered that anyone would be thinking about the price of my bass. I actually inherited the bass but I like to think that if I didn't I'd still end up playing a fender jazz anyway.
Those russian muff's are fantastic! Guitarist in one of my other bands was using it and I was constantly impressed. |

Look at Sonic Youth - they haven't tred to be anything for thirty years and they're still the most popular; unpopular band of the 80s-90s-00s. (not implying that SY is crust, just that they were "anti" and did their own thing)

| | | | Hey Metrobass, I don't think I have the energy to act the part for anyone to be honest. I know what you mean though, the people trying to be icons in scenes are easily forgotten but bands with substance have there recordings heard for years to come.
Hey Joe, I think it's going to be about 8 weeks or so before we get the decent ep out there. If anyone fancies I could send a package of a few bands I'm in and around in exchange for a collection of your bands ep's. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
