Steely Dan: never a fan so don't know any of their stuff.
Dire Straits: Brothers In Arms is a song that most guitarists wish they had the ability to write.
Fleetwood Mac: Everything before they became a pop band.

Been a fan of Fleetwood Mac for years. John McVie always seems to play very tastefully on everything. They have quite the musical catalogue. Get "The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac" dbl disc set (nearly 40 of their best from 1975-1997), re-released in 2002? This is all w/ Buckingham/Nicks. I don't know much about the Pete Green/Bob Welch years (pre-'75).

Sorry if I sound like a commercial for Fleetwood Mac...justa big fan.

Steely Dan had several different bassists, with the most commonly associated one being Chuck Rainey. Aja is an amazing album. IMHO, listening to and learning any of their songs/albums will only broaden your horizons of what can be done with a bass.

Dire Straits. Good, solid bass, but nothing jaw dropping IMHO.

Fleetwood Mac - I love John McVie's tone. The earlier stuff (even before Nicks and Buckingham joined) is better IMHO than Tusk and beyond.

Yep. The only album after I really cared for after "Rumours" is "Mirage".
