Tips on EQing/Mixing/Thoughts on Two Bass Bands????

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello (and yes I know theres a search function but I couldn't find my question answered).

So anyways I was posting on craigslist for a stoner/doom/sludge band and for the hell of it I put in that I'd consider trying a two bass band as I think this idea has a lot of potential.

But what I was thinking is I'd imagine both live and recording you'd run into issues with the sound being too muddy particular if you are downtuning. I'd imagine it would bleed in to the drums significantly as well.

Does anybody have any tips besides the obvious ones? (obvious being play in different registers on different kinds of basses or one person with a pick, etc.)

Any EQing recommendations?

I mean if we were both playing clean it wouldn't be an issue but there will be some amount of downtuning and heavy distortion at parts and I'd like it to sound ****ing massive like the Earth is ripping open and not like an unintelligible mess.

Theres something about the possibility of unison and harmonized distorted bass riffing that just seems like it needs to be done.

Thanks everybody. And mods please move if this is in the wrong forum...Wasn't entirely sure where to put it thanks!

I'd try fairly radical panning i.e. one Bass hard left, the other hard right
