Lightbulb Tommy the cat cover (First vid)

Sign in to disble this ad
I finally got round to recording tommy the cat onmy new laptop

Anyway im recording directly into my Phonic Helix firewire 2 mixer and then straight to my laptop. Now the tone sounds rubbish for 2 reasons:

1. Im using a set of dead string
2. Im recording directly into my laptops webcam program which means that I cant perform any post production.

Anyway, any constructive critism would be appreciated.

oo and it might be a bit quiet so turn up ure volume

Peace

Matt

Yeah, you could do card tricks during the bass-less sections of the song.

Honestly, I think you've got it down pretty good. The technique looks good, your hands look comfortable, and that's probably the most important part. Get some new strings on that bass and do some more primus for us!

The dead strings kinda suit the song actually. Did you learn the riff from one of the Primus anthology books?

Nice job!

Not really a criticism so much as a suggestion to adjust the "groove". Try to get ahead of the beat - maybe push the 1 a little bit - to give the song some extra energy.

BTW, do you play that live with a band? Tommy the Cat is really a jam song and it's a shame to waste the ability to play it following along to the CD in your bedroom. Anyhow, I'd love to see you play that at a show.

+1.

I almost didn't click on the link, because I thought it would be, well, bad, for lack of a better term. (I've seen a few too many Youtube vids...............)

But it was done very well!! Nice job!!

Wow thanks 4 the replys. No I learnt mainly from ear and watching claypool play it on YouTube. Sadly tho I'm not in a band, me and my m8 (a drummer) was thinking of setting a primus tribute band up but we couldn't find a guitarist that liked primus so sadly I'm stuck playing to the cd in my bedroom anyway thanks for the replys and feedback.
