Legit question http://www.myspace.com/milkteethband
The song "Wilford Brimley (in E minor)"
This is a very poor example of what I want to turn into a live act. The reason I refer to it as a poor example is because the drums/programming is not live. The bass and guitar are just a live jam.
My idea is sort of an electronica space rock/jam band. Where a so called structure is defined by someone on a laptop and maybe some general ideas from everyone. Having a live drummer will make this sound 100% better, but I have to ask: Is this song (as a very rough idea of what I want to attempt) too weird?
At some point, I stopped having the ability to distinguish weird from just a little weird. I know that sounds cheesy, but there have been times where I have attempted to be slightly mainstream (for lack of a better word) and the general reaction is that it is too weird.
So would a more polished, more dynamic version of this idea be something worth perusing as a live act?

You just have to figure out how to find the audience that likes your particular weirdness. You could play college art showings for example, there's a lot of people that get into the performance art aspect. |

I would say that it could attract an audience, but you have to find the right audience |

We're going to have a show at the local dive bar hopefully around February. Should be fun
I do think with work, it could be turned into something a bit more interesting. I do think this is what would turn us into a "band" rather than just a bunch of people making noises at the same time.

Ha, Ron Now, I really really dig your music a lot, but some trick porn spam came up from your typo mypsace. But if I lived in the Chicago area... I'd really want to be in your band. Do you have any releases from this project? CDs/etc?

Here are two live shows I did, and the audience (though small) was appreciative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2Gl2JetM94 http://www.ev-b.com/vids/bluecube3.mov
(Note that both are embarrassingly bad, but I had a lot of fun and everyone at the shows had a good time enjoying the weirdness.) |

But, depending on the crowd that bar sees, it might be a good fit...
IMO, that kind of music is best a low volume levels (In general, I think most bands should play at a reasonable volume in a bar - just so the patrons can still have a conversation without having to shout). The Wilford Brimley song is pretty cool music to just chill and have a beer to... I'd lend an ear, but I'm sure my wife would want to leave. (She tends to be into more mainstream pop music though). |

And I should say volume wise, we don't plan on being too loud, more background music. We might do something much more chill than this and just come across as ambient, that would be interesting in a dive bar, to hear some super laid back Enya jam.
