Hey guys! Just been messing round with this new MELODICA! of mine today. I did a playalong jam to Jimi Hendrix's Little Wing for fun.

I love this thing!

Melodica is a great underrated instrument. Check out Augustus Pablo great reggae musician and probably first person to use melodica as a real instrument.

I've wanted one for a while, they can sound pretty demented.

I usually don't like the sound of that instrument but you did a fine job and I enjoyed that!

Isn't that the Hooters trademark sound? "...and she danced...like a wave on the ocean..."

I got mine for $100 Aussie. Which is pretty much same in US dollar now too.

Expensive IMO. But fun!

Hohner makes a few that are in the 40-60 dollar price range. You can find them on Musician's Friend.

I messed around with a melodica once and had a lot of fun! It's a cool sound but definitely not warm... I love the sound of harmoniums and pump organs, though. Harmonium's like a mini pump organ.

Good post, before Pablo picked up a melodica it was just considered a toy... He is a very underrated musician at least in the United States. I think he was a lot more known in the UK.
