Hey all. I've searched, but i haven't seen any "Top 10 of '09" lists, so i thought i'd start one!
IMHO, 2007 and 2008 were both REALLY good years, but this year was a little lackluster. In regards to heavy music in peticular this year straight sucked. I won't go into too much detail, but here are my top 10 releases of 2009 (in no real order):
1. Gliss - 'Devotion Implosion'
2. The Raveonettes - 'In and Out of Control'
3. The Crocodiles - 'Summer of Hate'
4. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - 's/t'
5. The XX - 's/t'
6. Coalesce - 'OX'
7. Eastern Wave - 'All Covet, All Lose'
8. Fever Ray - 's/t'
9. Teenage Bottlerocket - 'They Came From the Shadows'
10. The Leftovers - 'Eager to Please'
Close but no cigar: Shellac, Gaza, Grizzly Bear, Battlefields, Black Pyramid, Daitro, Dinosaur Jr., Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Manual Zombie, Loss Of A Child, Fall of Efrafa, Ox Scapula, Narrows, Jesu, Red Knife Lottery.
Yall's turn!

Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Alice in Chains - Black Gives Way to Blue
Megadeth - Endgame
Lacuna Coil - Shallow Life
Creed - Full Circle
Of that short list, only Mastodon was a real standout. AIC was a solid effort, but not outstanding like their past work. Overall, this year seemed weak sauce compared to 2008. The fact that I only purchased five new albums all year really points to that. |
