Roundabout-Yes
Sucka N***a-A Tribe Called Quest
lots of Jamerson basslines
Intro to birdland- Weather Report
There are tons and TONS of great hip-hop basslines, namely from groups in the Native Tongues collective, but MF Doom has some good lines too. |

| | | | Another one I just thought of-Jeremy by Pearl Jam!!

There are so many, so here are my picks for today:
"Head Over Heels" by Tears For Fears
"Is This Love" by Bob Marley And The Wailers
"Good Times" by Chic (an obvious one, I know)
"Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen
"Heartbeat" by Taana Gardner |

| | | | "Aruba" - Rippingtons
"Love Foolosophy" - Jamiroquai
"Mellowship Slinky in B Major" - RHCP
"Hysteria" - Muse
"Play That Funky Music" - Wild Cherry |

"Dry Cleaner from Des Moines" Joni Mitchell (Jaco)
"It's a Shame" The Spinners (one of the all-time Jamerson masterpieces)
"Bed's too big without you" Police (one of Sting's classic non-barn-burners)
"Slave Driver" The Wailers (Family Man Barrett)
"Black Sabbath" (Geezer Butler) |

| | | | Loads of great lines, these move me the most and, as far as I can see, have yet to be suggested:
Can You See the Real Me - John Entwhistle - The Who
Haitian Divorce - Chuck Rainey(?) - Steely Dan
Mr Pink - Mark King - Level 42
School Days - Stanley Clarke
Bernadette - James Jamerson - 4 Tops
As a reserve:
Hit Me With your Rhythm Stick - Norman Watt-Roy - Ian Dury and the Blockheads
I'm sure I'l think of more! |

| | | | Billy Jean
Barney Miller theme song
Wanted Dead or Alive
Superstition
Tom Sawyer |

Gotta include Jamerson. Gotta include Pino. And Bruce Thomas. And Geddy. AND ROCCO.
So here goes: this is today's top 5:
1) I'm In A Different World - Four Tops/Jamerson
2) Radio Radio - Bruce Thomas with The Singer and The Attractions
3) Count On Me - Tower of Power/Rocco
4) Hemispheres (what I think of Side 1!) - Rush/Geddy Lee
5) Give Blood - Pete Townsend/Pino
That took 45 minutes to narrow it down! |

-Simple, tasty and free.
Joshua Redman - Jazz Crimes
-FUUUNKAAAY.
Charles Mingus - Fables of Faubus
-Everything is great about this one.
Freddie Hubbard - Red Clay
-A simply brilliant bass-line, outlines both the chord changes and the rhythm perfectly
Lenni Kalle Taipale - Jazzarin Mopo Keulii
-Melodic, yet manages to maintain a steady foundation.
Checking out absolutely all of these songs should be mandatory for all bassists, whether you play jazz, funk, pop or death metal.

In no particular Order:
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones ~ Sinister Minister
Vic is just sick on this one. He's always great but this is an amalgam of old school and "new bass" for lack of a better term. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPBmyFsfyPc
Duran Duran ~ Save A Prayer
John Taylor doesn't get the props he should in my opinion. I could have gone with any number of great bass driven tunes but this one is my fav because of the spaces he leaves in the playing. It's tight, the tone is tasty and it just works. Less is indeed sometimes more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHAVs...eature=related
Kiss ~ Larger Than Life
THE song that made me pick up a Peavey T 40 and learn to play. Gene is an oft over-looked bass player except here of course On a personal note this is my all time fav Kiss song. http://video.google.com/videosearch?...fe&hl=en&emb=0
Journey ~ Walks Like a Lady
Ross Valory is a FANTASTIC Bass player. He was the reason I chose a Peavey T40 .. I loved the sound of that bass. http://video.google.com/videosearch?...Journey+Walks#
Sun ~ Slam Dunk Da Funk
As my name implies, I am an absolute lover of funk. I could have went with Bootsie or any number of tunes but THIS one just does it for me. Enjoy ! http://video.google.com/videosearch?...on&hl=en&emb=0 |

4. Heard it Through the Grapevine-James Jamerson
3. The Legacy-Iron Maiden
2. To Tame a land-Iron Maiden
1. Overjoyed-Victor Wooten
Sha Ba Du Ma Ma Ma, This is a great song and the bass is jumps out in the mix, great bass solo as well.
Heard it Through the Grapevine, James Jamerson is just amazing. He has some of the smoothest flowing bass lines ever created.
The Legacy, just a great, epic song. Steve Harris is awesome.
To Tame a Land, Just epic as well, That is all that has to be said
Overjoyed, Oh my god, When I first heard this song, It blew me away. He covered the song so well, I have ben trying to learn for a while now, It is certainly the hardest song I have ever tried to learn.
