Troy Sanders distorted bass tone on Crack the Skye

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello! I was just wondering about the distorted bass tone Troy Sanders uses, especially on the song The Last Baron, on Mastodons Crack the Skye album. Is that being produced mainly by the big muff pi? I guess if that's the case then it's really a fuzz, not a true distortion. I love that through all those distorted guitars, his tone is still there, and quite prominent in the mix on several of the songs, he gets drowned out at certain points, but some of those songs are tuned to a low A! Anyway, if any of you could help that'd be fantastic. Thank you!

I think he uses Big Muffs, russian ones. He has about 3 or 4 of them on his live rig. Not sure what is used on the recording though. I do know he used an SVT-VR and Orange AD200B for The Hunter in the studio.

So yeah, my guess is on Big Muffs.
