Trumpet 'n' bass tune + two vocal tracks

Hey Chaps

Been a long time since I posted anything here - though I have been busy with a new album project with a singer and some new solo bass project stuff.

Love to know what you think of this new song 'Sunrays' I recorded in Logic pro - I used BFD2 for the drums, multi-tracked a load of bass parts and then got my brilliant trumpet playing friend Rowan to add some Miles-ish solo stuff in the middle. I'm still experimenting with sounds and production/mixing/mastering so this is still work in progress - hopefully it will be part of an album later next year...

High quality MP3 here:

Or first track on the myspace:

The other two tracks on my Myspace page - Return to Me and Rather Make Believe (2nd and 3rd songs on my profile) are with this band Labbatu that I've formed with a singer, keyboard player and drummer - album out also next year.

Thanks for listening - have a cool yule y'all - and a Happy New Year.

Mike

I really like the "Sunrays" track. In fact, I think it's probably one the best tracks I have heard from you.

Thanks man - I just added a phat remix of an older tune of mine called Flip Out the Funk - it's on the Myspace page... I love LOGIC!

Cheers for listening - really glad you dug it.

Hey Mike, nice to see around here again.

I`m currently listening to "Sunrays" and I like it a lot. Your fretless tone is remarkable and the effects you`re using are cool. Your playing is constantly improving and you`re applying your advanced techniques into a musical context better than ever.

I dig the interaction of this "non traditional" duet with the trumpet. The BFD sounds quite real, but I personally find the drum parts a bit boring or repetitive for a 6+ minutes long tune.

I`ll give a listen to the rest.

Hey man

thanks so much for the constructive comments and for listening to the stuff, I agree about BFD, I need to work on the beats more, it's just so painstaking!!! I've been checking out a lot of Squarepusher recently, and while the guy is a monster bassist, I actually think he's equally monsterous at all the production side of things too, and I love his tunes too... he's f***ing good!

And seeing as you are one of the remaining JASCO fans out there, the band is still sadly defunct, I have a new more traditional funk outfit called Groove Digger, it's more classic funk than Acid Jazz but you may still dig it, there are some high quality MP3s here:

Anyway thanks again hope all is well with you, I'm a dad now by the way, Ben is 8 months old already, it's all good.

Cheers

Mike
