Trying to figure out bass lines by ear

Sign in to disble this ad
I've been listening to some recordings and I want to be able to figure out the bass by ear, but it's hard to pick out some fills and little details sometimes. Is there some way to boost just the bass on the track? I know I can do just a bass boost, but then it boosts the kick drum and all of the low sounds and it doesn't help much. I was wondering if there is a good eq to help just boost the bass track

If you have good speakers on your computer you can use Windows Media Player. Once you have the tracks you want on your computer you can use WMP to listen. Use the EQ to bring up the bass and it has the ability to slow down the song without changing the pitch!

I use an open source program called Audacity. It's a great tool and it's free. You can select just the portion of the song that you want to work on. Then slow it down without effecting the pitch. You can have it repeat the same little piece over and over if you want like a phrase trainer. Boost the bass etc. It also has a 32 band EQ. Here is the link for the download. You're gonna love it!
