Hey, my band just put up two new songs this week. I would love it if you would check them out at www.myspace.com/calvaryrock and let me know what you think. The new songs should be the first two that will play, The World Will Wait and This Hope We Have. We recorded everything ourselves on Garageband.
Edit: We are a hardcore band with some mild screamo tendancies, so just be aware of that.

I think the recoding of both those songs could be alot better. But I am not going to tell you what you should have done and all that. I think it is great that you have some songs on myspace....I dont. But I would try and get them professionally recorded all of them and especially the 2 songs I like. I think with a better recording the songs could be alot better to the ear. The singer is not my cup of tea on the other songs. I like all types of music but when it comes to sreamo style I am more picky. I love Mudvayne's singer and Slipknots because both of the singers have great voices in normal singing and the can scream in tune with the song. I think the vocalists is always the hardest job and the hardest to find for screamo. But the 2 songs I liked the vocalist is pretty good. Just my 2 cents.

Those are both older songs. Our singer tends to sound better live than recorded, I think. He seems to have more energy and punch when he's live vs. recorded. The older recordings weren't very good, in large part because we worked with a guy who doesn't listen to a lot of harder music, so the mix was weird and the guitar tones weren't so great. |

very different songs from each other though but both good
had to agree with the vocals not quite fitting into the mix with the older stuff but I guess these things can happen!
off topic but by the way every time I see your avatar I keep thinking,... is your rig small or is your wife small... lol

And in answer to your question, it's my wife that's small. She's 5' even, and my rig consists of two Tech21 B410 cabs and a six-space rack with my Kustom Groove 1200, Symetrix 501 compressor, and Furman power conditioner. It's about 5' 2" all told. |

If you're interested at all, I recorded three lines into the computer: One clean, pre-everything DI, one post pedalboard DI, and my cab mic'ed with an SM57. I was running my VT at a fairly mild grit all the time, and the bigger, doomier parts had my HBE Hematoma set for a medium-gain distortion. We added some thick, high-gain distortion to the clean DI signal via ReValver, which helped make everything sit in the mix a lot better. |

I need to try and record my band again, used the Zoom H4 and it sounded ok, but bass was muddied as heck, guitar sounded blah and the drums just overpowered it,... I guess thats the problem of trying to do a live take in a small room though!
