Hey,
A few years ago the UK based Bassist Magazine (long since defunct) published a list of the 'top 100 bass albums of all time' (or some such thing). Does anyone still have a copy of this publication? Can you post up the list? I'm sure there's a lot of overlap with the other favourite/best/recommended album posts in the forum, but I remember this being a good all round list that I stupidly got rid of before I actually bought any of them...

3: Weather Report - Heavy Weather
2:Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius
1: Red hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic
Two Jaco albums being beaten by the Chili's is bound to fuel debate!

Flea might slap up a tasty lick here and there, but musically and virtuosically (made up word, basically how much of a virtuoso), Jaco wins, hands down. Jaco also played fretless, which up'd the difficulty of his lines by atleast 30%. |

Good to see things like Rio and Tin Drum, hopefully proving that bassists are more accepting of the music rather than be swayed by its wrapping. Surprised Quadrophenia didn't make top 50, but that's the nature of lists I guess.
Wow I'm proud of myself I didn't go off on one about....................... peace out

The production on BSSM was absolutely amazing and made for a really great listen. It was the best bass on any of the CP albums IMO and is one of my favorite recordings. Jaco is definitely a better overall talent but is that really what the list was about? |

I think my main disagreement with the list is the exclusion of three of my favorite (and most influential) bassists; Bruce Thomas of the Attractions, Graham Maby of Joe Jackson, and Scott Thunes of Frank Zappa. Meanwhile, there are 4 Jamiroquai albums listed, and I've never even heard one of their songs.
