Jamiroquai released a new album just before the list was compiled. These sort of lists shouldn't be taken too seriously, cos there's always going to be an element of the 'flavour of the month' in them.

Really? Start here and YouTube yourself up, this link has Paul Turner on bass so he won't have featured on the albums listed, but it's a good enough place to start.

Very true, so I always take these things with a grain of salt. However, there really are some terrific albums on that list...tons of inspiration for us low note freaks to absorb regardless of our personal preferences.

Pleased to see a good Level 42 contingency there . I know Mark King is primarily known as a slapper , but his formiddable fingerstyle has been just as big an influence for me as any other player.

I think it's a fine list. I copied and pasted it for future record-shopping reference. Undoubtedly some of you are like me and already own at least a third (maybe close to half) of those records. This list points out some essential and obvious voids in my record collection, though.

Honestly, I almost wish they'd left Kind of Blue and those Charles Mingus albums off the list. I'm as big a fan of Mingus' and Paul Chambers' bass playing as anyone. In fact, those two guys are probably my favorite bass players ever. To me, though, their token inclusion on a list that's overwhelmingly dominated by electric players on non-jazz albums is kind of pointless. It's just a can of worms best left unopened. I mean, if PC's and Mingus' recordings were on the list, then Ray Brown's playing on Oscar Peterson records, Ron Carter's work with Miles and countless other upright jazz players' performances should've been included.

Granted, I'm bitching about three albums on a list of 100. I just think the list would carry more weight if it left classic jazz albums alone and stuck to rock/soul/funk/fusion albums that feature killer electric players.

Paul hasn't played on any of their albums yet. The only released track that he's played on is Runaway. Stuart Zender played on the first 3 albums (Emergency on Planet Earth, The Return of the Space Cowboy, Travelling Without Moving), Nick Fyffe played on the next two (Synkronized, A Funk Odyssey) and several session players were hired to record the 6th album (Dynamite). Paul will be playing on their next release, which will probably come out later this year.

Just FYI, Stuart Zender is my favourite bassist of all time, and for good reason. You should definitely check some of his stuff out.

I do not think its a bad list. That being said, I think that Aja should be higher up. #99, please

1970s American R&B/funk bands are grossly underrepresented, and "Mothership Connection" is only #73?! There are some good choices here, but there are too many glaring omissions for me to get behind this list.

Blood Sugar Sex Magic, #1? No way. Not a chance. Flea's a fine player but no way. Maybe in terms of influencing more people to pick up the bass it would win but if that isn't the #1 criteria forget it. He merely took a style of bass playing and gave it to the white masses. Much like Elvis did early in his career.
