Unmixed recordings preview of my prog band.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all

My band is currently recording and my drummer sent me a sneak preview of a couple of songs with bass, drums and guitars unmixed. Its prog rock alla Dream theater, in fact Song 2 has the bass melded a bit to much into the background for my liking just like DT, but it still works and comes across in all the right parts.

let me know what you think , keys and vocals to be added.

I liked both tracks overall & the musicianship. Like the King Crimson/Russian Circles feel but seems a bit long and repetitive, but I guess vocals could change that. Love the guitar solos later in the songs, nice.

Bass on Angels Rising was nice. Both songs seem really similar. Vocals, again will make the difference.

I would like to hear more lead guitar, less syncopated unison Bridges & stuff. Its nice for small breaks, but seems overused here. The little lead parts are really nice but are a bit short and end abruptly rather than building with the song or taking it to another level. Overall the songs seem to lack direction. They seem to be meandering.

It seems to me you could cut a third off of each song it would make things better. Take each song and rebuild it where they really go some where with all these parts. It seems like the songs just bounce from part A to B, bridge solo etc, without any purpose to the totality of the piece. It would be cool to take the songs cut up all the parts and re-arrange them to go some where musically, that is more purposeful. It would also be good to get a third party who is unbiased to rebuild them. You have all the parts its just how they fit together.

Just my opinion.

Seems like the bass could be a tad higher in the mix, but thats just me.

Wow, very nice man.
I'm honestly not that easily impressed, but that was awesome keep it up.

Are you sure you still belong in the mediocre bassist club!!!

Serious sound as well for unmastered.

Both solos are amazing.

If it where me I would leave them as instrumentals, unless your singer is also as competent a musician as the rest of you.

Hey guys thanks for your kind words and constructive comments!

We havent got a singer at the moment so alot of our songs have been written without lyrics in mind so the sections do sound a little bolted on!. It does worry me that when we do finally get round to adding them it will just sound disconnected rather than fluid.

Angels Rising however is a complete song but it only seems to make more sense when the lyrics and Keys over it. Can't wait until they are all mixed and finished.

And the bass definatly need to be higher

Thanks again for the comments!

sounds real sick man, but just my input here, the drums should do a bit more at some parts.

keep up the good work, i wanna hear some of this with vocals when its ready.
