Vail Johnson's new Beatles CD

check out my new beatles tribute disc called 'come together'.
you can listen to samples, give me some feedback. This isn't designed to be so much a 'bass players' cd, it will hopefully reach out to anyone that likes beatles tunes.

Hey Vail, I thought the version of "Come Together" sounded very angry and edgy for a funky slap version, which means I liked it a lot. "Eleanor Rigby" makes a nice slow samba. The Latin "Hard Day's Night" is a little weird when I'm so used to the original version, but it was done extremely well and works in this context. I liked the funky take on "Get Back" a lot. Still not sure what I think of "Can't Buy Me Love," as I must admit I'm married to the original versions and the beat you're using takes my head out of its comfort zone. I was kind of surprised you played it straight with "Yesterday," but I think it was my favorite clip of all.

I like what I'm hearing overall...covering the Beatles is a real ballsy move, bro. People love those songs so much as they are that many don't want to hear someone else reinterpret them, especially a bass player. But I thought you did some real interesting things that took some guts and creativity. You definitely hit more nail than thumb.

Yes. I've been waiting on this one. I love it. Very tasteful playing on it.

Sounds good Vail! I have your "Terminator" and "Says Who" CD's and I really dig them! This sounds like good stuff, an ambitious project no doubt but the arrangements and the playing sounds great! Keep up the good work Vail, and drop by here more often!

Because I initially discovered your work via a link on Phil Kubicki's site, please allow me to post this picture of a Kubicki I used to own!

Great stuff! I like everything I heard, especially the harmonies on 'Eleanor Rigby' - very nice arrangement.

This is awesome, particularly "Eleanor Rigby" -- Paul McCartney wishes he could play like this. Not really a Beatles fan, but now I'm seeing something in these tunes that was not apparent before.

Vail, you rock.
