Question Valley Girl bass tone?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, I was wondering if any of you could help me find how Scott Thunes got that tone and sound on "Valley Girl" from Frank Zappa's "Ship arriving too late to save a drowning witch" album?

Thanks in advance!

According to Zappa, Scott Thunes played the bass through a Vox combo (don't know if it was a solid state or a tube amp) and that gave the distorted midrangey tone. At that time Thunes played a two pickup Carvin bass, 'though it might have been played on a Precision too.
