Karen Briggs is such a badass violin player. Used to play for Yanni, awesome.

Bass player for Yanni in that video was Ric Fireabracci. He's played with some amazing people, but the thing that really says it all is that he subbed once for John Patitucci in the Elektric Band. SICK player.

Vertu are amazing, but then, isn't anything with Stan going to be awesome?

However, it's sad to see how far Richie Kotzen has fallen these days, he used to be the young darling of Shrapnel records! Now he's looking older, and his playing is so different from what made him so amazing in the first place!

I couldn't disagree more! I think Richie Kotzen has matured and plays deeper than his early "shred" days.

I must admit that Kotzen's playing was the one thing that put me off this band - I bought the first album and I loved Stanley's melodic solos, but found I couldn't listen to it, because of the horrible guitar tone and unimaginative solos!!

Agreed! I too bought this cd years ago based on Stanley Clarke's name but have not played it since! A bit too out there for me!

+1.... this music is a pale shadow of the great fusion music that Stanley had a hand in creating. Seems like a total 'retro' looking back sort of thing to me, and I too gave the CD 'one listen' and then it went on the shelf.

Here's what I like about Kotzen--he replaced C.C. DeVille in Poison, then got kicked out a few months after sleeping with Bret Michaels' wife!
Ha ha-take that Poison! ZING!

Seriously, though, ain't nothing cool about sleeping with another man's wife...especially a bandmates!

I don't know.....Bret might have been more pissed because Kotzen is a better singer than he is.

I gave the Vertu project some props for getting Stanley away from some of the smoother product he was doing in the late 90's. I do agree it's not on par with the early solo stuff and RTF.

The guitar tone was pretty naff-it's been a lot more "down the pan" since he stopped using Ibanez and went to a Fender+Marshall combo. Not that there is anything wrong with Fender, but his Ibanez tone was miles better. Much better for his shreddy playing, although I find his playing these days to be a slight unimaginative, and his phrasing lacking. Back in the day though, at the tail end of the 80's, he was amazing.

On the other hand, how often do you see someone shred like that on a Tele?

Not often, but thats probably a good thing. Give me a Jem any day. I really think, that had his writing had a little individuality in the early days he could have been the next Jason Becker/John Petrucci or whatever. Unfortunatley, when he debuted shred was just about to go out of fashion in the mainstream, and he never seemed to reach exit velocity, as it were.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but Prince does so regularly.
