Vic plays Jaco in Live at the Quick

so i was listening to the recording of the Flecktones Live at the Quick the other night, and in the song Big Country, right after the bass and sax duel thing, victor plays a lick from Jaco's Continuum.

i have never heard this mentioned, but i thought it was a neat little thing to throw in there, it fit the song perfectly, and i was wondering if anyone else had noticed this.

Noticed it, and it was very cool!

Similarly, listen to Hadrien Feraud at the end of "For jaco" from McLaughlin's "Industrial Zen" album, he plays a sneaky little line based on Continuum there.

Also in the original version of Big Country off the "Left of Cool" album Vic plays the same part of Continuum.

Some people object to that kind of thing, but I always enjoy a well-placed quote. One of my favorite onstage memories is of a night at the Cocky Bull in Lancaster CA. The band included an excellent keyboard player and an excellent guitar player. These two would often engage in "quote duels". On this night, they both got on a kick of quoting Hendrix's "3rd Stone From The Sun". It wasn't long before they were both putting it in several times in every song, and the more they did it, the funnier it got! Toward the end of the night they were both doing solos composed entirely of the quote, and I was laughing so much I could barely play! It was amazing how they could both fit it in, over any changes, any feel! The bandleader (rhythm guit/vocals) was in his own little world, but eventually started looking at me funny, wondering what I was laughing at. He never did catch on!
Good times.
