Most of people's admiration of Vic go mostly toward slapping/tapping. Kind of a shame since he's a monster of fingerstyle as well. I've never heard him favoring the J pickup like that though, nice sound.

I much prefer his finger style, don't like the double thumbing thing much.

+1. Most of the time the double thump thing is pretty tasteless IMO.

It also sounds very thin to me.

Yea I agree. Very thin and clanky. Is it me or does the overall volume of his sound piss you off sometimes? Sometimes it's so quite I have to turn my CD player up all the way.

as wanky as a lot of his stuff is, I've always thought vic was really good at playing with dynamics.

Vic is the real deal.
An innovator with slapping and tapping, hearing sounds in his head and being able to produce them.
All around good bassist. Killer dynamics, knows his stuff, finds the pocket, and never leaves, and one of the nicest guys on the planet.

IMO, he's one of, if not THE finest bassist around today.

I agree. Don't get me wrong. I'm just saying that on some recordings, not all, I have trouble hearing him in the mix. Maybe it's just a recording thing. I know he's good, I just want to hear it in the song. Maybe it's just me. But I still don't like his double thump all the time. Not that I should talk, cuz I'm not nearly as good as him and I can bearly do that double thump thing.

I do not agree with most of you guys. I believe that when it comes to technique he is a MONSTER, but IMHO he is not the most musical bass player around and his songwriting skills are not the best...

To me, Victor as an overall musician is not nearly as good as him as a bass player.

Wow.

Lately I haven't been a huge fan of vics stuff(you all know what I mean) but this was absolutely amazing. One of the best performances I've seen in a long time. Vic is really an amazing musician and person.
