Victor Wootens most technically amazing album?

I'm a wankery type of guy, I don't want to buy a Vic album just to hear him rap about family. I'd like my first wooten investment to be a good one, so what's his best and most technically amazing album?

Show of Hands is the real deal if you want to hear a Vic chops fest that is still interesting and musical. IMO, that's the only CD you really need from him if you are primarily interested in investigating his amazing and unique technique.

However... I think the best way to hear Vic is in the amazing songwriting context of the Flecktones... the 'Live Art' CD has a beautiful sampling of Vic's playing... fretless, fingerstyle, solo, slap, etc., and I find that group's songwriting puts Victor's playing in a very interesting and musical context.

One of my fav's is the first Bass Extremes video or DVD....I prefer it even over the cd/tape.

I'll second that - I just bought it on DVD as my old VHS copy got lost a few years ago. Even though VIc has matured and developed a lot of new stuff since then it's actually one of the few video examples of hum busting over some changes - he does Donna Lee double-thumbed and that is still very impressive for its cleaness and articulation - plus he does some nice stuff on a classic bebop blues at the end - Steve Bailey does some nice stuff as well but I find his soloing so disjointed - like he's getting ready to play his big chops - then throws them in no matter what the context - it always sounds odd - Vic is on fine form however.

Definitely worth a look

I think so too. My recommendations are "Live at the Quick" and "Little Worlds".

ya gotta get the 1st Flecktones with the Sinister Minister! Also, Flight of the Cosmic Hippo is cool - the title track has a really nice fretless solo, not flashy, but tasteful and fat!
