Vid of me playing Battery (Metallica)

Sign in to disble this ad
I posted a poll on the official Metallica boards, asking what song people would most like to see me play. And Battery got the most votes, so here it is!

Let me know what you think, and enjoy!

Played on this bass, in case you couldn't tell

I can't really hear that well... are you gallopping on your bass or are you just playing eighth notes? I can't gallop that fast with my fingers yet

Sweet. Love the tone. Didn't watch much... maybe the first 2 minutes, but your playing is excellent. Definitely deserves a bass of such fine caliber.

Pretty cool, but like I said before, you need to record something with your starfire!

The gallopping sounded kind of weak. Dunno if it's because you didn't want to go too loud or because of the crappy video quality of youtube, but it didn't sound as clear as the other parts.

Still, I wish Metallica had bass that audible. Overall, I'll take that version over the original, because you make the bass sound ominous and powerful.

It is kinda hard to make out the gallops. Partly because of the video compression maybe, but I think it's more my playing style and this bass. I use really light gauge, low-tension strings and play with a light touch. Playing any harder would make the strings buzz and clack a whole lot more than they already were in parts of that vid. So playing gallops more softly like that (at that speed) makes them kinda blend together, since you don't hear the attack of each note as well.

That's how I see it anyways...

The Starfire will be in the next vid I put up. I've got a month off of school for winter break so I'll be doing a bunch of vids

It's always confused me why Cliff Burton did these sorts of things when you can barely even hear them on the album.

Nice playing :P

Sounds like you created your own bass lines for it as Cliff is next to impossible to hear on that album. If so, the lines you came up with are very good. I could pick out the galloping with my headphones. I think I heard a timing issue here and there, but great work.

This is one of those song that I could never get down, especially when the vocals come on is the verse.

Overall very good. I didn't really care for some of the fills. I feel a couple didn't fit. IMO, I didn't feel your playing.

You played it a lot better that I can.

Off topic, but...

Am I the only one who'd like to get the multitrack masters for the first 3 or 4 Metallica albums and bump the bass up and check out what it would sound like?

On Topic: Nice playing... and beautiful Stammie!

Yeah i just had to look at every thread you've posted. Your bass has captivated me. Im defiantly making some electronics additions to my custom Gecko build.

Pretty impossible, unless you have a lot of money. Your looking at corporate owned property. Im sure not even Metallica can get you those. Usualy the masters are owned by the record label.

It's a Stambaugh custom. You can check my threads on TB about it
