Great stuff. I really like how you documented how you check everything you're taking with you before you jet off to the studio. I call it my "dummy check".

Can't wait to see more!

Thanks.

I just added a 1983 Musicman Stingray to the collection this week.

It is a GREAT sounding alder bodied Stingray, a little mellower than the typical stingray.

I'll put a video up showing the different basses soon.

I noticed the Fender Jazz had a white pickup?

Also what are your comments on the REDDI?

The white pickup is just a pickup cover that I found laying around. The pickup is still the original and I still have the original pickup cover..... I just kinda like how it looks

The REDDI is really an amazing DI, it sounds very full and clear and has tons of head room. It is a bit bulky, but I still try to bring it to every gig I do because the tone is SO noticeably better than using a passive DI.

When we fly to gigs I can bring it and keep the sound going to my In-Ears and the FOH consistent, despite whatever amp may be provided as back line.

I was lucky enough to pick mine up used here in town for a good price, but if it were ever lost or stolen I would either look for another used one or buy a new one if I had to. It is worth it to me

You are right, pickup cover does look pretty funky.

My church was looking into a DI recently but i was not sure what to advice them, i was thinking about Avalon U5 but haven't had any hands on experience with it, have you?

I really considering getting one, I play active about 75% of the time, would passive work better with the Reddi?

Its very important to me to keep my sound consistent which is why i am interested in the Reddi, What are the Sound guy's comment when mixing your bass with the Reddi?

Our sound guy loves it, very clean and clear but with good low end.

The Avalon U5 is great and has a few more bells and whistles, but to me the REDDI sounds more full. The U5 can sound a bit sterile.

Cool video! Glad to see more people are using the REDDI- it's a great piece of equipment.

Do you still have your Fodera? It's a shame not to see it in use, though understandable for these types of sessions. I'd still buy that thing off you in a second!

What type of production company was sourcing music like that? Film?

I love how the part of the video comes along that says "working out arraingments" and you do a full bridge to nut video shot of your bass.

Angus: I do still have the Fodera and I love the bass, but it VERY rarely gets used for anything. In the studio it is more of a Jazz, Precision or Hollowbody most of the time and live the Fodera does not work for the Robbie Seay Band. I am starting a sort of fusion project that I may use it for.....

Also, I mis-spoke when I said production company. We were actually working for a Publishing company. They have artist who have songs in demo form that need them to be produced and recorded. What we are doing is taking those demos, producing them (adding bits, changing bits and taking bits away) then the artist will come in and sing on them. The Publishing company is using all 10 of these songs differently, some will actually be on the artists records, some will be bonus material they can use online, and some will be pitched to TV/Film. It is a blast to do this kind of work because each tune is so different and open to so many possibilities.

DANZIG - yea, great camera work I love basses and I love gear (not sure why) so my camera will always tend to drift in that direction....

Hahaha, dang, well, you can't blame a guy for asking about the Fodera. You know my name if you change your mind!

Publishing company makes more sense- that's the kind of studio work I find myself doing most of the time as well (except I do it freelance rather than with a specific group of people). It's usually really fun...except when your most well known recording is a cat food commercial.

Do you find yourself gravitating towards the P or the J at most recording gigs? I haven't found many engineers lately that care about Fender versus not, but the ones who did always wanted a P bass- which is the opposite of what it was 5-10 years ago.

I would say I use my Jazz bass about 85-90% of the time.

Jazz bass -> Reddi -> Emperical Labs Distressor = Always works!

The next most recorded bass is actually my Epiphone Jack Cassidy bass. It has flats on it now, but I think it actually sounds better with rounds. Got it for $375 on craigslist a few years ago and I use it all the time.....

The thing about the fodera is that it is just worth so dang much, I'm not sure if I would ever sell it.... but it would be tempting for the right price.... and that price is a WHOLE lot
