Yes, I know full well that it's messy, I mess up and it's generally devoid of musicality. I thought it sounded cool nevertheless, and is a good indication of what can be done with tapping.

To answer your questions, my arrangement is an abridged version of a score I got from www.music-scores.com. I figured out fingering and everything after getting down the notes, and I had to displace an octave or two. It still sounds all right despite this.
I do indeed have a teacher, but for upright bass, not electric. I'm pretty much self-taught on electric.
I used OD because in my opinion, it adds more life to this particular tone poem than without. It's supposed to give a very decidedly buzzing sound like an insect, and done on a stringed instrument with rough bowing, it works. However, it doesn't quite get there with the legato tapping I use, so I kicked in the distortion to add that extra buzz. I can provide an MP3 of it done without the buzz if you people wish, since it sounds all right, just not as cool.
