Does anybody know off-hand who played bass on the Village People recordings and/or Live with the band in their heyday? For the life of me I cannot find the information anywhere and don't see any mention of it on TB anywhere. Thanks!

I went ahead and emailed while I was on site, and here's the response;

That is a long time ago, long before we were their agents. I don't know
who would have that information.

Alfonso Carey played on most of the hits.

Brian Allsop & Barbara Starkey played on the 'live' album.

Howie Epstein played on their last album.

Well, I found a few contenders here ... since this album is recorded circa '79, I'm assuming that this fits the bill.

That link gave me Brian Allsop, (who also played with Ashford & Simpson), Frank Gravis , and a 'Barbara Starkey'...Although whether this is Ringo's wife, or a pseudonym for someone else is a big old question mark.

But the one you're looking for is Alfonso Carey, who is credited with the bass chair on Go West and Macho Man. He ended up playing with Patti LaBelle, and others .

Howie Epstein (of John Hiatt and Tom Petty's bands) played on Renaissance.

(Edit)...'And I'd have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for DWBass'

Hey DWbass, wasn't Brian Allsop (Fudgie Kae's replacement in Mandrill) Killed in a motorcycle accident in the late 70's?

Hey DWBass, I did some research and Brian Allsop ( who at the time lived on my trumpet players block in Brooklyn N.Y.) was killed in a motorcycle accident in September 1981, at the time he was playing bass with Ashford and Simpson.
