This is more about music in general than Bass, but how many of you out there enjoy listening to music on vinyl? I got a turntable earlier this year ostensibly just to listen to the dozen or so LPs I had picked up over the years, but it has turned into the centerpiece of my listening system now. Since then I've picked up 100 or so LPs, including some real gems. And I totally love it. Even albums 30-40 years old can still sound great. Vinyl is the only medium I buy now. The thought of buying digital downloads or CDs now is a joke. But I'll plunk down $30 or more for a good copy of an LP I really want - go figure...

I still have a lot of vinyl...but I also have kids, so right now all of my LPs are in my closet, where 5 and 6 year old hands can't reach.

I inherited my fathers collection spanning the 40's through the 80's blues, rock, ect. I have listened to this collection for all of my 30 years of life. Adding to it too. Vinyl has soul that will never die. And i have some albums that sound better than any othe medium thus far.

I can relate. I inherited some LPs from my parents, then bought a few more for nostalgia's sake. Then I wound up buying a pretty good turntable to listen to them on. Now I'm disappointed if I have to buy something on CD because it's not available on vinyl. The cool thing is that a lot of bands nowadays will do a vinyl pressing.

Vinyl is superior, especially the bass. Digital is like 2% milk. You get used to it until you drink a glass of whole milk and then you remember that it tasted like. A great deal of my LPs have the "simulated fireplace" sound aquired over the years, but that's the price I pay now, and I can get past it when I hear Steppenwolf's version of "Hootchie Kootchie Man".

I've reproduced most of my collection fairly cheaply in the past year. IMO some of the best sounding ones are WARs greatest hits, Earth Wind and Fire, Alan Parsons....when CD's can sound 3d like these let me know.

I even bought a 2nd hand record cleaner and any records that have noise I donate ...so I've got a lot of really clean sounding records..very few bad recordings in the lot.

there are some things I will listen to on CD like the Mobile Fidelity pink floyd or steely dan stuff....like it's been hard to find a super quiet copy of Gaucho which is just superb on CD.

I wish I could hear Fleetwood Mac's Rumours right now on vinyl. Or Jethro Tull: Live Bursting Out on vinyl again. Unstoppable warmth. That should be my new tagline.

I've got a few hundred vinyl in my collection, couple of rarities in there worth a bit of cash, but they all get played. I bought them to listen to them. I have a few "collectors" pieces, but none were bought for collectors prices.

I'm running a pretty nice hi-fi setup to play them through too.

Vinyl doesn't inherently sound better, its just gets better mastering treatment.

I love vinyl, but c'mon, dudes, don't let the Kool Aide stain your teeth.

Tons of vinyl here. I still listen to the stuff that I can't find in CD. But I don't fool myself. I don't want to hear all those pops and scratches and don't see anything better about the medium except for that it flourished at a time when LOUDNESS WARS were not so prevalent.

FLAC rules.

I got into vinyl several years ago now, I have more albums on vinyl than I EVER had on CD previously. I am mostly interested in 70's music anyway and vinyl has become the prime medium for all my listening. In fact I dont have a CD player hooked up to my stereo. My only "digital" listening is MP3' on the computer.

I started out as a DJ, first a club DJ then did the NU-Metal thing for about 5 years. I love records. I have collected a lot of very rare LP's over the years. Best medium to listen to anything.

I still listen/collect vinyl. I have a lot of old school punk albums that were only released on vinyl.

No, what you have said is wrong.

Vinyl = Analogue = Superiority

CD/MP3 = Digital = Compressed Bit rates = Fail

You wouldn't trade your tube heads in for a digital modeling amp would you?

That's cool man - what are some of your rarities? and tell us about your system too.

I use a Pro-Ject Debut III through an older NAD amp, but I am probably going to upgrade to a higher-end Rega pretty soon.

I don't mind the stains, or the pops, or the crackles. Also, I drink mine WARM as hell!

Love it. Thrift stores and used record shops are wonderful, wonderful places.

Lots of love for vinyl at http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/
