Viola da Gamba goes contemporary

Sign in to disble this ad
Few months ago I posted a video of me playing a tune of contemporary japanese composer Nobuo Uematsu on viola da gamba, and I promised to link other new videos.

Now I link a composition of italian cello virtuoso Giovanni Sollima...

The original composition is called "Terra Aria".
Conceived for 12 cellos, it was written for the Biennale in Venice.

Here I play it with 12 overdubbed Viola da Gamba.

Please, give me feedback and suggestions

Visibility bump. You might also throw this out over in the DB side, if you haven't already.

This is really neat, thanks for sharing. I've always thought that Viola da Gamba deserves a larger spot in the contemporary setting. Everybody pigeonholes it into the Baroque/Early Music niche, and it hasn't gotten a chance to show what it can do in modern music. Great stuff.
