Violin vs Bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I have heard that it is the bass that holds orchestras together.

I suppose that both violin and bass take a different role however, there are many orchestras who do wonderfully without a bass at all.

I guess a great deal of it comes down to the completion of a song through the bass/bass guitar! Fortunately most of the arising young musicians realize this however, I just heard an interesting new style on a play list of new songs bass lining with a violin ... pretty cool.

I thought it was the AFofM contract that held orchestras together?

It's easier to go without a bass as the cello section can cover most of it just fine.

Funny. The guitarrist's style reminds me a lot of Marc Ribot....

What holds the NY Philharmonic together is the Playboy Magazine subscription purchased in perpetuity by the brass section.
