Warwick Streamer Stage II. Demo track

Sign in to disble this ad
I had to record a reference line for my band, so I decided to give my new (to me) Warwick SS II a try. I`m posting this as a tone reference, forget about my playing

Considerations:

- The setup is not the best and action is a bit high to my taste.
- Bass was recorded direct to my sound card, no effects, just a bit of compression and normalize.
- Strings aren`t new, so tone could be brighter. IIRC, they are DR Hi Beams.
- All controls @ full, balance at 50% and bass at 85%.
- The outro was recorded with a Zon Sonus 5/2 (also, every low D)

There`s a constant RF noise that`s a constant in my house. I can`t get rid of it.

Let me know your opinion.

Demo track

I really like the tone, classic Warwick, I'm a big fan of that sound.

There's more music in the nuance than the notes.

Great tone, tho I personally wouldn't call it "classic warwick" as much... one of the things I've always like about the SSII's is that super distinct Warwick "bark" is more subdued on them. To my ears, the SSII's are more mainstream modern sounding than most Warwicks (a good thing for me.)

Sweet track Papersen. Now I can't wait to hear it in a full mix.

Thumbs up

Hey Billy! I really like your version of this track. Comparing what you did with what I suggested you, I can tell I've learned a lot from you in terms of style and taste.

And your tone is great! Can't compare it with the "classic Warwick tone" since I'm not an expert, but I think it's a thunderous, powerful tone with the right amount of highs. I'd add just a tad of mids since it sounds a bit scooped to me, but a great tone anyway. Great job!

Thanks Alvaro.
One of my main influences right now is Robert De Leo. I truly admire his taste and his melodic lines (Jamerson influenced) within a rock context.
I applied some of his concepts into this track.

Here`s an updated studio version (mp3 quality)
The track was re recorded and mixed using the same bass.

Very nice smooth sound! Have you had the stock pre and pups there? And what was the bass controls settings?

Thanks for the comments.
The bass has stock pickups and pre (18V). I`m considering puting an Aggie OBP-3, to test them side by side.
All the controls were at 100% and blend set at center.

It was recorded straight to the console and used Ampeg SVX (SVT4 Pro + 8x10 cab)
