I really enjoyed that. The solo was great and his tone cut through really well the whole time. Good find.

For those who are impatient with Yanni, pause it and let it buffer then move to amount the 3 minute mark. From about there to 4:15, it's an awesome solo. Even Yanni stops playing (he just goes subtle for a lot of "solos" but he actually stops for this one).

I would have never.... in a million years... ever.... thought I would say I watched/listened to Yanni.

Ok... why? Well, silly me. I don't even know. Well, actually his style, even with the amazing bass, is still not my thing, but that was really great! His tone is freaking me out! How does he get such an amazing fretless AND slap AND...

That tone - those harmonics over the pedal tones - the seamless transitions from slap to fingerstyle...

Wow! Who is that guy?

I just have to echo all of that. Dude was fan-damn-tastic.

That was awesome. The violinist was pretty badass as well.

It'd definitely him, though it doesn't mention Yanni anywhere on the site that I saw... Ric plays with heavyweights like Bill Evans and Chick Corea.

that guy doesn't unfortunately play with Yanni anymore ...

I've been to two of his concerts ... in 2000 and 2004 ... both times they didn't play that song, and the bass player was a different black guy .... that is my all time favorite by yanni and of course they didn't play it

that's probably why he doesn't mention him on the site.

The fiddle player is a big namer too, who doesn't play with yanni anymore either .. they got a skinny chinese girl doing all the solos now who is pretty good, but just never had the same type of hard tone that this one has.

Great bassist!!!!!!!!

Great violinist!!!!!!!!!

Yanni sucks!!!!!!!!

Sorry but IMHO I have never heard his playing be anything but mediocre. His songwriting is ok but nothing stellar either.
He would be nothing without his bands.
At least he has the good taste to hire smokin musicians.

Thanks! I will keep my eyes out for him from now on!

He is another one of those players who makes everything look so effortless.

Yanni was always known as a composer before a pianist. I read an interview he did .. one of his more complicated piano pieces when he recorded it, had to play the right hand first, then the left hand second.

He does compose great music I think .. and it is all about his orchestra .. everybody in it is very good and I think it's cool that he usually introduces a lot of very odd instruments in various songs.

OK, that's weird. I brought a couple of DVDs to work today (VERY slow). One is Rush in Rio. The other? Yanni at the Acropolis. Just finished watching that song "The Rain Must Fall" with that solo in it when I found this thread.

Anyway The guy's name is Ric Fierabracci (D'oh! SuperDuck beat me to it). I bought this video for my mom when it came out in 1994. We watched it and I liked it so much I bought the DVD. I actually like Yanni's early stuff, but after 1989's Optimystique, his stuff started getting a little cheesy for me. The early stuff has some cool forays into 7/8 time sig, and some of the songs are pretty dark actually, which I dig.

P.S. the drummer Charlie Adams has a cool solo on "Marching Season" on the Acropolis vid.

**EDIT** Go to Ric's web site and click on "Gear" and check out those Laurus basses. Wild!
