So I got Wayne Brady's "A Long Time Coming" album on a whim at one of the local music stores. I thought to myself, "Self, you like "Whose Line" and Wayne's voice, what difference is $6 gonna make if it sucks?"
Well, I'm officially impressed. Really impressed. The whole album has a great R&B vibe, which I've only recently begun to appreciate, and the bassist is no slouch either, specifically on the track "Back in the Day." Again, only having recently gotten into the R&B/Soul genre, I've been struggling to find modern artists that hit me with a feeling of sincerity. Wayne's got it covered.
For what it's worth, there's a very soulful version of "Can't Buy Me Love" on there too.
...So anyone else listen to this record yet? Impressions? |

If you want to hear some good R&B bass playing, check out Michael McDonald's 2 Motown cd's! Nathan East is killin' it! Also, check out Manhattan Transfer's "Tonin'" cd. Jimmy 'Flim' Johnson absolutely kills on it!
By the way, Alex Al, Oskar Cartaya, Michael Valerio, Dave Carpenter (RIP) and Nico Carmine Abondolo are credited on Wayne's cd!
