I have to learn Coheed and Cambrias song Welcome Home...I've been listening to an isolated bass track, probably from rock band, and it really sounds like he's using a pick...or whoever was brought in to play the track of the song for the game. There's a problem here though...I've seen them live and he's played it fingerstyle and then in the video he's more slapping and popping. From other peoples interpretations and because I've seen the bassist use different styles of playing it live, what should I go with?

Here's the link of the isolated bass track that I'm listening to

That tone is direct from Mic's technique, which is slap, and then the EQ on his bass/cab. That sounds like his old spector tone to me, hard to get with a Jazz bass (what he's used the last few times I've seen C&C). I've never seen him or thought that his tone sounded like it was played with a pick. I think he has a very fluid tone shift from fingerstyle to slap - he can make each sound like the other.
