Tool's 10,000 Days. I basically spent two years hanging on every little detail I could find when I heard they were recording a new record in 2004.

High On Fire's Death Is This Communion also got me pretty stoked, as did OM's Pilgrimage. Mastodon's Blood Mountain.... the list goes on.

I am looking forward to the new Mars Volta and Protest the Hero. This past year I was stoked for new Thrice, Buck 65, Minus The Bear and Coheed and Cambria to name a few.

Favorite album of the past year, though, and most anticipated, was definitley Era Vulgaris by Queens of the Stone Age

I'll always look forward to what Metallica releases whether I like what I hear or I don't. I'm looking forward to Opeth's next album since I'm curious to hear how different they'll sound with a different guitarist and drummer. I WAS looking forward to Testament's album, but that was a few years ago when I really was into them (plus the title "The Formation Of Damnation" sounds pretty weak IMO). I'd love for King Crimson to record an album with their new lineup. I was also looking forward to the new Dillinger Escape Plan album, and it didn't dissapoint.

Waiting for Snakes and Arrows by Rush to come out was a nice, tense affair.

The Art Metal Trio record from Jonas Hellborg also had me waiting in suspense, and it turned to be excellent, as I expected!

+1, I'm always willing to take whatever journey Jonas wants to take us on.

I guess I am bit older than the regular posters here. The album that got me most excited in my life was the Beatles "white album" I remember so clearly waiting to get it, bringing it home and listening to every track over and over. It's not my favorite album, just the one I remember getting most excited about. Those were some great days.

On a side note; I teach Paramedis in the field and last week I had a fresh faced youngster. To pass the time I asked him what his favorite album was? He said "what's an album?"

Okay... That's pretty bad. I'm not sure if this person is quite qualified as a paramedic?

Maybe I'm just biased as I've worked in CD and record stores?

More on topic, though, another great album this year is the new Radiohead!!!

After the masterpeice that was Metropolis Part 2: Scenes from a Memory, I couldn't wait for the release of Dream Theater's Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

I was pretty stoked for the latest Mastodon album. I think the album I was most excited about ever was Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf and it was even better than I anticipated.
