i love the almost... disjointed feel of the compositions on that album. like the samples and drum tracks just barely lock in, the way the lyrics flow... it's just unique and it makes me want to just start spitting lyrics out whenever i have a bad day.
i'm in the same boat most times, talking about music that no one else seems to know or care to haha.
guess moving clear across the country, dumping money into the equivalent of a big black hole that yells and doesn't put out, being dumped three times in a row- i don't even know how that happened to this day- selling most of my scheisse and hitching back to new england was worth it for this musical connection!

It's a song cycle about unrequited love, and while it doesn't literally have a linear "plot" like "Tommy", the opening song brings you up to speed on the story, and then you're off on a one-way roller coaster ride of agony and ecstasy. It reaches a nuclear meltdown culmination on the next-to-last track (the famous title song), and then the final song serves as a sort of epilogue to the whole saga.
Fantastic.
Plus, you've got Carl Radle on bass, not to mention Eric Clapton and Duane Allman, of course.
Hmmmm... think I'll go listen to it now... | Bravo! Bravo!
Derek and the Dominos - "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs" ............ that album is 24K gold front to back. It will go down in history as one of the alltime great blues/rock/love masterpieces.

Read the liner book as you listen to it. It's a pretty far fetched story, but its a fun concept album.

Great playing by Chris Squire.
Here's one that knocked me over:
Vision of the Emerald Beyond - Mahavishnu Orchestra
Ralphe Armstrong on fretless (Gibson RD Artist?) bass plays some unbelievable stuff. If you've not listened to I recomend you do....

Opeth-Blackwater Park
Most of their albums are good all the way through, but there is something about Blackwater Park that makes the album feel more like a complete, coherent work. The title track is one of the best endings for an album that I have heard.

| | Wanna buy some mandies, Bob? | | Join Date: Nov 2001 Location: Longmont, Colorado | | | Here are some random ones that come to mind (which may or may not have already been mentioned):
- Pink Floyd - "Animals"
- Pink Floyd - "The Wall"
- Pink Floyd - "DSOTM"
- Sugar - "Copper Blue"
- Jane's Addiction - "Ritual de la Habitual"
- My Chemical Romance - "The Black Parade"
- Kate Bush - "Arial" (both CDs)
- Rush - "A Farewell to Kings"
- The Mars Volta - (hell, pick one)
- Porcupine Tree - "Fear of a Blank Planet"
- Beastie Boys - "Paul's Boutique"
- Frank Zappa - "Joe's Garage" (I, II, III)
- Husker Du - "Zen Arcade"
- Minutemen - "Double Nickels on the Dime"
To me, these are CDs that just beg to be listened to all the way through every time they are played. No point in starting in the middle or skipping around.
There are SO many others, but my memory is fading.

Also +1 to Band of Gypsys.
I can't believe I didn't see an Abbey Road there, though Sgt Peppers and Love are an excellent choice, too.
