Sign in to disble this ad
The guys I have been jamming with are looking into a Deftones song to do.

What is your favorite Deftones song to play or listen to?

If you've got a singer with range, Passenger.

Really, any song off White Pony would be my pick (Change has a killer bassline).

Really this will depend more on the vocalist than any other factor. That, and as with most covers, I'm sure it's important for your audience to recognize the song.

Also, what style of music does your band play in the rest of the set? Deftones' music really covers a lot of styles and levels of intensity.

Is Headup, Lotion or Hexagram more in line with the rest of the songs in your set, or would Passenger or Digital Bath fit better?

I really feel like if you're choosing to cover a Deftones tune you'd want to pick one that drives at the heart of their sound; something more rhythmic, repetitive and danceable.

The new record Diamond Eyes has some great tracks. You've Seen the Butcher, and Rocket Skates... but as stated above less people may know these.

Knife Party
Passenger
Change ~ has excellent dynamics, and done the right way can really be a powerful tune
+1 Be Quiet and Drive (far away)
Around The Fur ~ great beat, verrrry groovey. personal fav

I really prefer the feel of most of the tunes on Around The Fur. They seem to me to groove a little more to me. More rhythmic, repetitive and danceable.

+1 My Own Summer (Shove It)

Headup

As of now no vocalist just three of use and we just started jamming together, a guitarist, drummer and me.

The songs we are learning now may not ever be played live but I will give you a list of "homework" songs for next week.

Freewill-Rush
Land of confusion-Disturbed
The Rover-Zepplin
Hazy Daze-STP
and a Deftones song not yet determined

If you're not going to have a vocalist look to Around The Fur or Adrenaline and pick an up-tempo one with great groove. I think some of the White Pony tracks could drag performed as instrumentals.

+1 Root

We did Be Quiet and Drive, it seems to be a popular one to cover. Something like Change or My Own Summer would be fun to play, energetic and instantly recognizable, but VERY dependent on having a good vocalist.

+1 Played this one at a high school talent show.

Super fun bass line.

Damn that was like 11 years ago.

I think Head Up is the funnest to play with a vocalist. Two vocalists if you got 'em.
