Well. You're developing a good technique with slap and pop stuff. Perhaps a little more slap and a little less pop. However, you really need to work on your timing. Play with a metronome, and also keep steady count while playing. In a couple of places you rushed to force out the pattern you worked out. When you count, you never get lost and find yourself in this situation less and less. Also when forced to make a quick decision on whether or not to "get the notes out" or to "leave the notes out" in order to catch up with the tempo, I would suggest always favoring leaving the notes out.

Still this is not bad for only playing for a year. Good job.

I would try incorporating other notes than root octave, like root/dom. 7th. pattern, just root/octave slap is cliche, try using all other note combinations. Until they bleed, than bust out the crazy glue and beat it some more=) rock on. brian

It's alright. Personally...I'd like a LOT less slapping and more feeling but you're not me so it's all good. Keep practicing.

You got a really wacky right hand technique which you'll need to fix somewhere along the way with the whole economy of motion thing.

Why not post a fingerstyle groove video?

ADVICE

Sounds good, but play with a drummer or even a whole band.

+1 I can't say enough good things about economy of motion, it WILL make you faster, if that is what you are going for. And you are less likely to hurt yourself doing something out of the ordinary.

You slap good ... now learn how to use a pick, learn how to finger pluck, learn how to play Geddy style, and Entwistle style.

Then learn classic rock, jazz, blues, punk, metal, country, etc ...

Don't just be a slap bass guy ... slap is a great skill but there is a lot more to bass.

Not a bad effort if you've only been playing for a year! Work on your timing and getting things sounding smooth and neat. And as has been mentioned, sort out your slap and pop technique. Getting a good technique in the bag now (in all areas of playing) will make the road ahead a lot easier!

Good call.

Check out DKMarlowe on youtube for tips and examples of muted notes, and tons of other great demonstrations.
