I always hear these high school kids talk about "skater music." What exact defines skater music? What are some generic "skater" bands?

The Warped Tour is sponsored by Vans shoes, which are popular among the skateboarding set, at least that's my understanding. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warped_Tour_2007

| | | | It can be alot of things really... Ska, Punk, Pop-punk, even in some cases rap...
Normally though I think it's anything real up beat, and a bit of "F*** you" attitude. |

I was heavily into skateboarding 4-5 years ago when I was in highschool. To me, back then "skater music" was punk. Pennywise, Ramones, NOFX, SNFU, Strung Out, Pulley, etc. etc.
Now a-days it could be anythign, lots of "skaters" are into hip hop and rap and the pop-punk but again they are generally not very skilled in the art of skateboarding.
As for Professional skaters, you can not put a type of music to them. They will listen to everythign from Punk - Rap - Regge - Rock - Alternative - Metal etc etc.

Sum 41, New Found Glory, My Chemical Romance, ..yeah...just look at the Warped Tour listing...HAHA! Plus a bunch of skaters have taken on Rap and Nu-Metal. Nothing wrong with that...to each their own. Public Enemy rules. Ha!
To put it in generic terms: Skaters trend towards rebelious lyrics and aggressive melodies...no matter what form of music it is in!

There is one major thing wrong with skateboarding......Know what that is?.....skateboarders.
99% of the skaters I run into when I drag my aging carcass to the skatepark are complete morons that seem to find more joy in being obnoxious than they do participating in the reason they came to the skatepark in the first place. This is reflected in their horrid tastes in music.
The world is going to hell in a handbasket, I tell you.
Although I must say, I don't think you will find many "Nu-Metal" fans within the skateboarding community over the age of 12. |
