Question What was the first metal breakdown?

The middle section in Slayer's Raining blood? (1986)

I can't think of any earlier than that.

Wish they still sounded as awesome as they did back then now...

Blue Cheer...for me the most memorable in Peace of Mind where they blast out some solid bass chords while the guitarist(s) does some minisolos... pretty sweetish

Many of Black Sabbath's songs are actually reverse breakdowns. The main song IS the breakdown and the middle is a frenzy of awesomeness. I think Children of the Grave has to be one of the earlier real "breakdown" songs. 1971 !!!

I Don't have time to check out those songs right now, but what I mean by breakdown is the 'modern' type. The ones in mostly metalcore that are purely rythmic sections of strumming the 2 or 3 lowest open strings (guitar), with little to no melody, like from 1:06 to the end of this song YouTube - Attack Attack! - AC-130

peace.

Actually that whole song is pretty much a giant breakdown.

What you're asking for isn't the first metal breakdown, but the first metal breakdown that you happen to like. Oh well, I bow to Black Sabbath, and you should too !!!

Hmmmmmmmmmm............maybe you're right! Maybe a band as influential and signifigant as Sabbath never played a breakdown. This is a definition I found for breakdown.

Breakdown
very popular in most styles of music which involve men wearing thier sisters pants screaming about thier ex girlfriends and period pains. a chugging action performed on guitar which only one arm is needed to perform, one armed retards, aswell as, normal retards, love this because, it's an excuse not to have a riff which takes time to write and practice to perfect, people who enjoy this usally start having fits and waving thier arms and legs around trying to be as gay as they can in the biggest amount of space possible.
