I haven't heard anything about what these guys are up to lately. I always thought they had some potential. Sure some songs were a little to whiny in the lyrics, but some like Points of Authority were cool ('specially the remix and the vid for it).

After Minutes to Midnight I wouldn't be surprised if they're off the map.

Yeah, they completely suck now, I was tired of defending hem after minutes to midnight cuz that album really blows. LP is the band that really got me into rock and metal, but I've since moved on to better music. After so long, I understand why a lotta people hated their music, its too formulaic for me now, every song is just open-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-hook-ending, with few exceptions. But I do commend them for opening my eyes to beter music, before them, I only listened to rap, now I cant stand to listen to the crap thats around now, still listen to older hip-hop tho.

IMO, I would hear a song of theirs and maybe like it initially, but then it would grate on me very quickly. I never got into them heavily, just what I heard on the radio, but it seemed like their music was a bit formulaic. This is IMO and YMMV.

Seriously, to me Linkin Park sounds like an angry boys-band.

My twelve-year-old daughter likes them. What can I say?

Agreed. They always sounded like N'Synch with guitars to me.

at first I HATED their new album but then it grew on me. The lyrics are a lot more meaningful and more political then their older stuff. The only thing I cant stand is the clapping effect they put in a bunch of the songs. Overall I think it's a good record. Yes they have changed direction but dont all bands that grow do? I think their songs now are more deep more meaningful. I was a hard core LP fan from the start and at first I was really let down with this record because I expected the old LP sound but it's not. It did grow on me. Songs like No more sorrow (talking about Bush and the war) to "the little things give you away" about how the bush admin handled Katrina.. Overall it's a lot more mature then their earlier stuff. I have seen these guys in concert on pretty much every tour and they are amazing live. They sound a lot better live then on the record and everytime I have seen them they get better and better. They changed direction a bit.. so what? think of what happened when metallica did the black album.. or when they cut their hair.. bands grow and change. Listen to early green day and listen to them now they sound a lot different. The bands that stick around for a long time are the ones that change, and grow. While a lot of people might not like LP even the older stuff I think they are pretty good. Out of all the bands that have done the rock/rap thing I think they are the best. Bands that do that are either good rock bands with a horrible rapper or a good rapper with a horrible band. I think LP does both well. they are a good rock band and good hip hop band. Mike's raps are very intelligent and not like the old "I got my 9 and I'm going out banging"
Growing up In NYC I was exposed to the birth of Hip Hop but I was also a rock lover since I was 4 years old. I do think LP does both well. better than say.. Limp.. but that's not saying much! hahaha

There is a reason why they are still around after "Nu metal" died..

That's my take on it and I listen to everything from Pink Floyd, To 80's rock to 90's rock, 80's hip hop, techno, metal and hard rock.

I grew up on Kiss and Pink Floyd but also was very much into RUN DMC when they First came out..
